We are excited about cutting and coloring hair. It’s what we do and we do it well. However, we also know that there’s a lot more to hair than just cutting and coloring it, there’s also caring for it! While we can do a lot in the salon, a lot of people wonder how they can help their hair at home. If you’re one of those people, here are a few tips for you.

Your Hair Reflects Your Health

If you find that your hair is dry, brittle or lacks life, there’s probably something going on to cause it and you should take it as a sign to pay attention. If you’re eating well, sleeping restfully and aren’t overusing dyes and styling products, then it might be a sign of a greater health issue. The most common issue would be that you’re not getting the right nutrients, minerals and vitamins in your diet. To remedy this, you should adjust to allow for more protein, biotin and green vegetables.

Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate!

Drinking plenty of water is a great way to keep your hair healthy. Water helps to hydrate the body and in doing so helps to keep your hair and skin looking their best. Most physicians recommend between six and eight glasses of water every day.

Massage Your Scalp

Allowing blood to circulate into your hair follicles is important for their continued health. This can be achieved by giving yourself a scalp massage a few minutes before going to bed or before you shampoo your hair. All you need to do is rub your scalp with your fingertips in circular motions for a few minutes before going to sleep or washing your hair. A few minutes a day will do wonders for maximizing your hair health.
