1. Get frequent trims—yes, really.
It may seem counterintuitive, but if you want long, healthy hair, you’ve got to
get regular trims (we recommend coming in for a trim every 4-6 weeks).
While getting a hair cut won’t actually help your hair grow faster, it will help
prevent split ends, which can sabotage your hair-growing efforts. Think
about it: a split end that breaks can lead to you losing hair length.

2. Adopt a healthy diet.
A diet rich in vitamins and minerals is one of the best ways to grow your hair.
Fruit, vegetables, and iron-rich foods are great for stimulating hair growth.

3. Brush your hair 100 times before bed—okay, not really.
But we’ve all heard the old wives tale: brush your hair one hundred strokes
every night before bed. While Aunt Sally may have been a little off-base, her
advice came from a solid place. Brushing your hair before and after washing
it stimulates the blood flow to your scalp and distributes the nutrients and
wonderful natural oils more evenly.

4. Skip the daily shampoo.
We know this one can be tough for some people, but daily shampooing can be
really damaging and drying for many hair types. By reducing your
shampooing to two or three times a week allows your hair’s natural oils to
penetrate your scalp and hair shafts, which allow your hair to hydrate.
Warning: don’t let too much buildup occur, as this can lead to a surplus of oil
and dandruff.

5. Spring for a silk pillowcase.
Treat yourself for a good cause: sleeping on a silk pillowcase is much easier
on your hair. Silk helps avoid tangles and breakage issues that many people
run into with their hair. The less breakage your hair experiences, the longer
it will be. Simple enough.

As great as all of these good tips may be for natural, healthy hair growth, there is no
magic spell you can cast to miraculously wake up with long, flowing tresses. The
truth is that it just takes time.
